About Us

The University of Sheffield Lifesaving Club was founded in 2014 by Helen Morris and Michael Kirkham.

Lifesaving sport was started to encourage lifeguards to improve the physical and mental skills required when saving lives in an aquatic environment. It covers the act of rescue, resuscitation & first aid. The club offers the chance to demonstrate lifesaving skills at a competitive level.

Being a member of the club doesn't mean you have to compete, although once you start we hope you'll want to get more involved! There are many other ways you can take part, such as:
 • Learning how to react and help in simulated emergencies
 • Earning qualifications in Life Support & Rescue such as a Bronze Medallion or the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
 • Participating in socials
 • Attending our training sessions

Competitive lifesaving between clubs at universities across Britain began as a small collaboration between rival clubs over 15 years ago and quickly expanded as more clubs became involved. This lead to the formation of the British Universities Life Saving Clubs' Association, or BULSCA.

"Lifesaving sport is possibly the most demanding multi-discipline sport that exists in the world today. Connected so closely with the noble act of lifesaving, speed lifesaving offers enjoyment, challenges and learning to all ages and abilities" - RLSS 2006.
