Here you can find out who our committee members are and what the responsibilities of each of the roles are.

In general, it is the job of the committee to:

To promote the club both within the university and in the public domain

To ensure that all information given reflects positively on the individual, the club and the university

To adhere to the University and RLSS constitutions
-
Where possible, attend all club activities

Amy Parnell (She/Her)

Club Captain
It is encouraged that those running for club captain have been on the committee before.
-
To ensure, with the training officers, that the club has suitable facilities for events and training
-
To answer any general queries
-
To ensure any competitions held by the club are well organised
-
The Club Captain​ will be responsible for ensuring someone capable is organising and running the competitions
-
This person, be it themselves, another committee member, or other experienced lifesaver should have the support of the committee when requested
-

To correspond with other university clubs when needed
-
To liaise with Sport Sheffield and the Sports Officer when needed
-
To make sure the university have up to date and true information about the club, our performance and the courses we run
-
To communicate to club members details of the committee and their responsibilities
-
To correspond with the committee and make sure that hey have the information required to fulfil their jobs
-
To ensure that there is good communication between all members of the committee and the rest of the club
-
To organise and chair committee meetings at times which the majority of the committee can attend

Training Officer

To ensure that the club has suitable facilities for training ​

To improve the squad at a competitive level whilst involving each member of the club equally
-
To prepare and run a variety of SERC and speeds training sessions
-
To keep track of individual members and their ability, as well as the whole teams
-
To lease with the committee to ensure that all sessions are run successfully
-
To ensure club members know when training is
-
To make fair and appropriate team selections to be put to the committee for approval
-
To ensure everyone has an equal chance at succeeding and an equal chance to show their ability
-
To ensure all training is safe and to warn participants of any potential dangers
Competition Secretary
-
To organise transport to and from every competition
-
To work out fuel costs for competitions in advance where possible
-
To email club informing members of and inviting members to upcoming competitions
-
To pass on a list of club members attending each competition to training officers for team selection
-
To enter teams for competitions
-
To ensure (with the equipment officer) that the necessary equipment is prepared before a competition, transported there, handed over, accounted for and transported back
-
To pay entry for competitions (liaise with treasurer) and to organise all members paying for food and social
-
To assist the captain where needed with running the home competitions
RLSS Liaison

To attend branch meetings
-
To communicate with RLSS representatives
-
To maintain up to date contact information for branch and local RLSS members
-
To bring upcoming RLSS events to the attention of the committee
-
Communicate with the RLSS and the SU to co-ordinate any campaigns (such as Don't Drink and Drown) with the assistance of the committee.
Molly Holland (She/Her)

Secretary

To take minutes at committee meetings

To ensure that a copy of the committee meeting minutes are available

To organise publicity materials with the Publicity Officer

To update the code of conduct, risk assessment and constitution at the start of the academic year, in accordance with University guidelines and the past AGM

To organise the AGM and any EGMs in accordance with the constitution
-
To handle appeals to the committee as detailed in the Constitution​

Alice Lowcock (She/Her)

Treasurer

To ensure there are sufficient funds to run the club

To try and keep expenses within the budget

To liaise with competition secretary to arrange payment for competition entries

To correspond with Union and club captain about any money problems or grant applications

To organise the budget for the following year, with the subsequent treasurer if possible
-
To look into obtaining sponsorship for the club
-
To arrange fundraising

Hannah McElroy (She/Her)​
​
Welfare & Inclusions Officer
It is recommended that this position is held simultaneously with another position, but not by the Captain or either of the Training Officers

To attend the Equal Opportunities Course and ensure it is abided by
-
To make sure every member of the club and committee has an equal involvement and chance of succeeding in every aspect of the club
-
To ensure that every person has the same opportunity in joining the club, competing for the club and at socials
-
To sort out problems as best they can about teams and the team selection process and to act as a link between the relevant people

Club Safety Officer
It is recommended that this position is held simultaneously with another position, but not by the Captain or either of the Training Officers

To complete risk assessments
-
To work with the captain and training officers to ensure that training is safe
-
To work with the captain to ensure competitions are safe
-
To complete independent incident reports to Sport Sheffield, should anything arise​
​
Equipment Officer
​
It is recommended that this role be held in conjunction with another position.
-
To order, manage money for and distribute kit (including swim hats and swimwear) for all club members
-
To maintain the training equipment and equipment storage areas
-
To maintain and update a list of all equipment owned by the club, its location and the condition it is in
-
To liaise with Training Officers to determine what equipment is needed for training and the keep a record of this
-
To make sure training equipment needed by the club is budgeted for with the Treasurer
-
To prepare equipment for competitions (including First Aid Kits) with the Competition Secretary
-
To make arrangements for equipment to be taken to competitions safely, used appropriately and brought back in the condition it started

Lili James (She/Her)

Publicity Officer
This position can be held simultaneously with another position, or as a single role.
-
To co-ordinate a successful Freshers publicity drive, and repeat for Refreshers if necessary
-
Manage (and create) the club website
-
Keep the club website up to date with club news and relevant documents
-
To write, or ensure someone else provides, a report on every major club activity, including competitions, to place on the website
-
Manage the club’s social media accounts (primarily Instagram, Facebook and Twitter)
-
Liaise with other committee members, especially the Club Captain, to gain relevant information for the website and publicity material
