Our fifth and penultimate committee member is King Yee Cheung, who will be taking on the roles of Speeds Training Officer and Publicity Officer! Here is a little bit about her lifesaving experience.
"Hi, I’m King Yee and I’m in third year of Biomedical Science. I’ve got a big passion for water sports - I got involved in swimming and diving from a young age.
When I was 18, I took the NPLQ course and became a lifeguard. However, up until I stumbled across the Lifesaving Club’s stall at the sports fair, I was completely unaware of what competitive lifesaving entailed.
Since then, I have managed to win a couple of BULSCA medals, trained with an experienced coach and team on my year abroad in Singapore, and I have also met some of my closest friends through lifesaving.
The sporty side of lifesaving is definitely my favourite, as we get to incorporate speed with vital first aid skills that we’ve learnt. Therefore, as my role of Speeds Training Officer, I aim to help improve everyone’s fitness and confidence when it comes to racing. I hope that everybody, of all abilities, will have an enjoyable time at training. As well as this, I will also be keeping you all updated on club news via our website and social media pages as the new Publicity Officer."
