BULSCA Championships - March Round Up Part 1!

The month of March has been incredibly busy for our individuals and for our club, so we have decided to split up our monthly round-up into two!

During the last weekend of March, our strong squad of 12, plus our amazingly dedicated helpers travelled down to Swansea for the annual BULSCA Championships!

Our 2019 squad consisted of many people who were knew to lifesaving this year, and people who were doing new speeds events for the first time. This was a chance for us to showcase our skills and teamwork, but most importantly we wanted to have a weekend of fun!

We came away with great results on both days, placing 5th overall nationally. There were many highlights of the weekend for us - almost everyone beat their entry times and PBs. Here are some of our main achievements:

  • Girls relay team (Megan, Helena, King Yee, Ellie) - 1st in 4x10m line throw relay, new club record

  • Nick - 6th in 200m super lifesaving and 7th in 100m manikin carry (despite it being his first competition!)

  • Katie - 10th in 200m obstacles and rescue medley

  • Peter - 10th in 12.5m line throw

  • A team - 5th in the dry SERC

  • B team - 7th and 9th in the wet and dry SERCs respectively

  • C team - 7th in rope throw relay

Congratulations to all our competitors and to all the other universities involved. Thank you to all the helpers, officials, and the Championships Coordinator, without whom, the amazing weekend would not have been made possible.

Enjoy a small selection (not even 1%) of the 1500 photos we took!

Look out for March Round Up Part 2, where we summarise our amazing achievements during Community Week - a week full of charity fundraising, awareness campaigns, and volunteering. Also keep your eyes peeled for an update of the AGM and the new committee elections!
