A Successful First Month!

After a tremendous turnout at all three of our Give it a Go sessions last month, we are extremely happy with the amount of interest that lifesaving has gained. Not only have we developed and expanded the club's members, but also increased the awareness around drowning prevention and rescue skills.

New Equipment

UoSLSC finally have gates for obs events! After years of needing to use them in training, we finally bought all the materials and constructed FOUR gates. We hope that this will enable us to train better for the 4x50m obs relay and 200m obs events.

Socials

We have already had several successful socials this term, including one where we watched the new Baywatch film, and one where we went out to the SU Sports Club night out, ROAR! These socials have been important to us, as they have enabled us to get to know our freshers better, whilst making sure everyone in the club has a good time with each other.

Training

This year, we have extended our training hours in the hopes that this will benefit all our members by squeezing in extra speeds and skills practice. The number of people turning up to training sessions is more than ever (and it's increasing), so we hope this can continue, and will be reflected in successful competition results.

Competition

With only 5 days to go, and only 3 more training sessions left until Nottingham Freshers' Competition, all our members are training hard in preparation for this. We are over the moon at how well our freshers and returners are performing in training. Everyone is excited to get back into competing, and are even more elated about seeing the rest of our BULSCA family from all over the country meet up in Nottingham this weekend.

Fundraising

Recently, some of our members have been fundraising at Tesco stores to collect money for the RLSS and spread awareness of water safety.

Around 400 people needlessly die by drowning per year in the UK, which equates to one person every 20 hours. For other statistics and information about how to keep safe, visit rlss.org.uk.

Over two collections, we raised a total of £195.48 - this money will go to support drowning prevention in the UK.

Thank you very much to everyone who donated!

We Are International

UoSLSC proudly supports the #WeAreInternational campaign as part of World Week 2017! Equality is very important to us, and we can't wait to celebrate the diverse student population we have, not only in our club, but here in our university. Find out how you can get involved here: https://www.facebook.com/events/123968591619792/

All in all, we have had a very successful first month at UoSLSC, with more good things to come!
